Wildberries is an application for Android which allows you to purchase Wildberries directly from the developer's website. Founded in 2004 by a developer on maternity leave from his prior employer, Wildberries carved out an attractive niche in the smartphone industry by offering customers the ability to try out their products at select pick-up locations and then only pay for things that they bring home. "We think we're still just getting started," admits Kristina. "There are so many things to learn about Android that we still have a long way to go before we can ship on demand."
"The wildberry comes from Russian berry bushes, which grow wild across the north poles," explains Wildberries co-founder David Yarov. "They're naturally sweet and delicious, but because of their shape and structure they need to be cultivated for a very long time in order to keep their potency." Once Wildberries were introduced to the United States, their fan base rapidly grew. They're now one of the most popular apps for mobile devices and Wildberries also developed a companion app for Facebook called Wildberries on Facebook, which allows users to browse pictures and news from across the globe via their phones.
"The culture is unique in that it gives customers a taste of what it's like to live in Russia without spending a lot of money or breaking the bank," states Yarov. "The great thing about selling applications like Wildberries is that people have an idea of how Russian people live and they want to see a visual representation of that." As app developers it's important to consider the cultural implications of our work - how to present it in a way that seems authentic while still delivering a viable product. "The goal is to make it seem as if you're taking some sort of action in Russia that makes you feel part of the culture and country rather than isolated in your own app," states Yarov. If executed well, this can result in greater revenue for the developer while also increasing visibility for the brand.
